Imar Krige takes care of the design side of projects. He wakes up to the sight of Cape Town’s renowned Table Mountain each morning, operating as a graphic designer in the city’s central business district. At the worst of times this is not an ordeal. The so-called Mother City is known to have a vibe that inspires and energises.

The Atlantic Ocean and the prevailing elemental attributes of this southernmost corner of the African continent – often stormy, mostly stunning – are ever a boost to creativity. Imar was born a designer. The process of formally refining his inborn gift entailed, among other things, 4 years of graduate studies at the design school of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town. He has since found himself balancing the corporate world with a strong individualism that he nurtures and nourishes by immersing himself in the pleasure and reward of gaining insight and understanding in the work of kindred spirits across the globe – mostly online, but also in reading matter that is growing in abundance.

He slights predictability, pretentiousness and the mundane. Purity and sincerity in forms and shapes flow easily, albeit not effortlessly, from his imagination and his fingers. Meticulous and almost perfectionistic, he takes pains with all he creates. And then you will recognise Africa in it: the unexpected; the contrasts; the heartbeat; the warmth; the complexity…
